Since 1977
Lemhi County Humane Society owns & operates the Salmon Animal Shelter and Rags & Wags Thrift Store.
SAS provides high-quality sheltering services for the homeless pets of Lemhi County.
We also provide funds for public spay and neuter programs in an attempt to decrease the number of dogs and cats entering our shelter. We serve as a line of defense against animal abuse & neglect, working closely with law enforcement officials, to ensure that all animals in Lemhi County are treated in a kind and humane manner.

11:00am – 5:00pm Mon, Tues, Thurs – Sunday
Closed on Wednesday
Rags & Wags Thrift Store Hours:
8:00am – 4:00pm M-F
9:00 – 3:00pm on Saturday
🎉 Exciting news from our shelter! 🎉 We are over the moon to share that two of our longest-resident cats, Toy and Poncho, have been adopted together into their FURever home! 🏡💖
Toy, who has been with us for 160 days, and Poncho, who has called our shelter home for 239 days, finally found their perfect family — and they get to go home together! 😻 These two are the best of friends and love nothing more than snuggling up with each other, so we're thrilled that they get to continue their bond in their new forever home.
A huge shoutout and thank you to the wonderful humans who chose to adopt these sweethearts! 🥰 We wish you all a lifetime of love, laughter, and cozy snuggles. Here's to new beginnings and happy tails! 🐾

Where Are They Now: Smokey Edition! 🐾
We’re so happy to share an update on Smokey, the shy yet handsome fella who found his forever home a few months ago. His new family reached out to let us know how he's been doing—and we couldn’t be more thrilled! 💙
Here’s what they had to say:
"A little update on Smokey... he's doing wonderful! He often gets the zoomies and loves laying in the window watching the birds and his squirrel friend. He’s ventured onto the deck but is still a bit hesitant with the outside noises. Smokey has the loudest purr and his squeaky meow is absolutely adorable! He loves his doggie brother and enjoys picking on him! Thank you again for all you do and all you did for Smokey!"
Not only did Smokey settle in so well, but he and his new family sent toys and treats for the other animals still waiting for their forever homes. Thank you so much to them for the kindness and love!

Last year, we saw a 119% increase in the number of young cats and kittens taken in. Let's work together to keep those numbers low this year!
Next month, our spay/neuter vouchers will be available for both cats and dogs, helping us tackle the root cause of overpopulation.
